Fox Solar & Battery System Shutdown and Restart

Use this procedure if you have a Fox ESS hybrid inverter with battery storage and you need to shut down or restart your system.

Shut Down

1. Switch OFF the solar inverter AC supply

Locate the AC breaker or isolator associated with the Huawei SUN2000 inverter and switch it OFF.

It may be labelled:

- Solar / PV
- Solar Inverter
- PV AC
- Solar AC

Only operate a breaker or isolator that is clearly identified as belonging to the solar system.

2. Switch OFF the Huawei inverter

Go to the Fox ESS inverter.

Locate the inverter's PV/DC switch and turn it to OFF.

This switch controls the DC input from the solar panels. It is not the battery switch.

Fox identifies a dedicated DC Switch on hybrid models such as the KH series.

3. Switch OFF the battery

Go to the Fox ESS battery system.

Switch the battery DC breaker/switch to OFF.

Then switch the battery power button OFF, where fitted.

The battery controls are separate from the PV/DC switch on the inverter.

Step 4. Wait 5 minutes

Leave the complete system switched OFF for at least 5 minutes before restarting.

Restart

1. Switch ON the Fox ESS PV/DC switch

Go to the Fox ESS inverter and turn the PV/DC switch to ON.

This reconnects the solar PV DC input to the inverter.

2. Switch ON the AC supply

Switch the Solar / PV / Inverter AC breaker or isolator to ON.

If your installation has a separate EPS / Backup breaker, switch this ON as applicable.

Fox's startup documentation groups the inverter PV/DC switch and AC breakers at this stage of the startup process.

3.Switch ON the battery

Switch the battery DC breaker/switch to ON.

Then operate the battery POWER button, where fitted.

The exact battery power-button operation can vary between Fox battery models, so I would not tell customers to hold it for a specific number of seconds on a generic Fox page. Fox's own startup instructions distinguish between battery types.

4. Allow the system to restart

Allow several minutes for the Fox ESS inverter and battery to initialise and complete their normal startup checks.

The system should then return to normal operation automatically when operating conditions allow.

Know the Different Controls

AC BREAKER / ISOLATOR

Controls the AC connection between the inverter and the electrical installation.

FOX ESS PV/DC SWITCH

Controls the solar PV DC input to the inverter.

BATTERY DC SWITCH / BREAKER

Controls the battery supply.

These are separate controls and should not be confused with one another.

Important Safety Information

Only operate clearly identified external switches, breakers and controls.

Do not open the inverter, battery or electrical enclosures. Do not disconnect PV or battery cables.

If you cannot clearly identify a switch or breaker, stop and contact Sol Viva for assistance.

If there is smoke, fire, sparking, a burning smell, unusual heat, damaged equipment or water entering electrical equipment, do not use this reset procedure. Keep away from the equipment and contact the emergency services where appropriate.

Solar panels can continue producing DC electricity whenever exposed to daylight, even when the inverter has been switched off.

Example images shown on this page are for identification purposes only. Your installation and labelling may differ.

Still Having Problems?

If your Fox system does not return to normal operation after the restart, do not repeatedly reset it.

Contact Sol Viva and send us:

  • A photograph of the Fox inverter display.
  • The fault/error code shown.
  • A photograph of the battery.
  • A brief description of what happened before the fault occurred.
  • This will help us diagnose the problem and advise you on the next step.

Note: Fox produces several inverter and battery configurations. This guide is intended as a general customer procedure for Fox hybrid solar and battery systems. Where the equipment manufacturer's instructions or the system-specific instructions supplied with your installation differ, those instructions should be followed
